August 1st (horses birthday) saw Billet race at Kembla Range in a 2000m race, his first attempt at this distance. He was paying $9 in the betting ring until a mystery punter placed a big bet???
We had a crew of 12 go down for the event that saw Billet jump really well from the gates and sit in 3rd position until the last turn, @ the 400m mark he moved out and took the lead only to be run down in the last 150m by the favorite and one other horse. He came a solid third place in the end.
Billet has run 11 races in this stint and now goes out to rest for 5 weeks before going back into training again.
We will keep you updated on his next start.
wHere he started......
Billett - is the resident racing horse owned by Director of wHere ? group
For anyone who has ever owned or known someone who has owned a race horse they will relate to this, the typical race horse story…
The director of wHeregroup, Todd Hunter and his two mates, purchased their horse in 2006 at the Magic Millions sales on the Gold Coast.
So they paid $25,000 for a horse that soon after they realised that they couldn't register with Racing NSW as they were not in posession of the ownership papers. The previous owner tried to throw a blanket over their eyes. They later found out that he owed Racing NSW $400,000 in previous fees and they were holding his papers in ransom. It took some legal action to recover them.
Never having owned a Race Horse before they trusted anyone who seemed to know more than them, hence this led them to be "conned" out of $6,000 from a chronic gambler…and the horse with a fake trainer.
They had to borrow a horse float and go steal our horse back again from an acreage in Scone...what an experience!!!
Oh yeh, did we mention that Todd is allergic to horses!!!
So now began Billets new life @ Hawkesbury, in which they soon found a trainer that knew what they were doing and after all the turmoil, and costs, they all moved forward with their horse "Billet".
Oh what an adventure…
So now we have a race horse who has the following stats as of 13th July 2009
- 10 starts – for 1 win and 1 third placing
- We broke our Maiden ( first win ) on June 13th 2009 at Kembla Grange
Stay tuned for the next Billet adventure.....
